PRESS RELEASE: Japanese Government Funds Cafeteria's Construction and Procurement of Equipment for the Execution of the School Feeding Programme

The signing ceremony for the Grant Assistance for the Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) entitled “The Project for Constructing the Cafeteria for the Trafalgar Primary School” took place on January 24, at Trafalgar Primary School, Trafalgar, Dominica. The Trafalgar Primary School received a Grant of up to US$ 36,240 from the Government of Japan for the construction of a new cafeteria and necessary equipment for the preparation of meals.

 

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Yoshimasa Tezuka, Ambassador of Japan to the Commonwealth of Dominica, and Mrs. Doreen Watt, Principal of Trafalgar Primary School. The Honorable Petter Saint-Jean, Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, and the Honorable Dr. John Collin McIntyre, Minister of Employment, Trade, Industry and Diaspoa Affairs, were also in attendance.

 

In his speech, Ambassador Tezuka stated that through this project, the Trafalgar Primary School will provide proper foods for the students who have been unable to access it and that the nutritional balance is very important for healthy life, especially for children. He also said he has no doubts that this project is truly the one which meets the “basic human needs” and we are very pleased that it can assist this project through the GGP.

 

The Government of Japan welcomes further opportunities to work with the Government and the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica, all with a view to strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding which exist between the two countries.
