On November 8, 2010, the Government of Japan has decided to extend emergency relief goods to the Governments of St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines respectively, which include electric generators, water purifiers etc, equivalent to 8 million JPN yen (equivalent to USD $98,000 at the current exchange rate) and 7 million JPN yen respectively (equivalent to USD$86,000 at the current exchange rate).
In these two countries, more than five (5) persons are reported to have died, and more than twenty (20) thousand people are affected. Nine hundred (900) homes were estimated to have been destroyed by the Hurricane. In St. Lucia, the country’s water supply is severely disrupted and consequently the majority of the island cannot access potable water.
Based on the requests from the Governments of both countries, the Government of Japan has decided to dispatch emergency relief goods immediately to both countries in view of humanitarian assistance and friendly relations between Japan and St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
