Press Release: Japanese Government Assist with Equipment Procurement to Increase the Recycling Activities in Antigua

PRESS RELEASE

 

The official handing-over ceremony of the newly equipped recycling plant of the Antigua and Barbuda Waste Recycling Corporation (ABWREC) which was executed through the Grant Assistance for the Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) entitled “The Project for Promotion of Recycling in Antigua” will take place at 1:30 p.m. on November 7, 2012 at ABWREC’s Recycling Plant, St. John’s, Antigua. The ABWREC received a Grant of US$77,176 from the Government of Japan for the procurement of equipment including conveyors and control panel, sorting platform, recycling skips and bins.

 

Through the project, it is hoped that ABWREC will increase the collection of the recyclable materials in Antigua and will make the sorting ability of the recycling plant more efficient.

 

The ceremony will be attended by the Honorable Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda. Also, Mr. Akihiko Sanada, Second Secretary, Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Mario Bento, Chairman of ABWREC, will also be in attendance to the ceremony.

 

The Government of Japan welcomes further opportunities to work with the Government and the people of Antigua and Barbuda, all with a view to strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding which exist between the two countries.
