Transit Travel (guidelines subject to change)
1. Application Form: completed, dated and signed answer all questions.
2. Photos: two 2”x 2” full face white background (1 glued onto application DO NOT staple photo).
3. Passport: valid with at least two blank visa pages, remove any case or holder.
4. Travel Itinerary (copy): reservation or booking indicating travel movements for entire journey.
5. Final Destination Visa: passport must have visa (if applicable) for country of final destination.
6. Accommodation confirmation if staying overnight.
- When in transit for 72 hours or less through Japan no visa is necessary but individuals will be confined to the transit area within the airport.
- Individuals wishing to leave the airport during their transit period for sightseeing/relaxation purposes only must apply for a transit visa.
- Transit visas does not allow for the conduct of or engagement in business activities, attending meetings/conferences, visiting acquaintances, friends or relatives.
- Applicants in transit wishing to enter Japan for purposes other than sightseeing and/or relaxation must apply for a temporary visitor’s entry visa in accordance with the embassy’s procedures and documentation requirements.
Applicants who are Minors
- Minors traveling with adults: Proof of legal guardianship/relationship must be presented.
- Minors traveling alone: Consent/Authorization and proof of legal guardianship must be presented.
Applicants Residency Status
Applicants who are non-nationals of their country of residence must provide verification of their residency status.
Overseas Applicants (Including Individuals Residing in Tobago)
To facilitate efficient and smooth interviews overseas applicants must forward copies of all required documents including their passport’s bio-data page for pre-evaluation at least 5 working days before their appointment date to the embassy.
After forwarding documents on the following business day contact the Embassy to confirm its receipt of the documents.
- Email: scan documents and email to consular@po.mofa.go.jp with the subject Consular Section.
- Fax: number each page and fax to (868)-628-6515 attention Consular Section.
- The processing period for visas is not guaranteed by the Embassy. This may take approximately 4 working days to 21 working days, and in some cases, more than 21 days depending on the situation.
- Applications are NOT accepted via mail.
- Applications that are incomplete or without proper supporting documents are not accepted.
- Documents submitted should not be dated older than one month.
- Any Documents submitted not written in English and/or Japanese must have an official translation attached.
- Supporting Documents submitted with application as requested will not be returned.
