PRESS RELEASE
The signing ceremony for the Grant Assistance for the Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) entitled “The Project for Improving the Community Centre for People with Disabilities in Region 6” took place at 1:00 p.m. on February 27, 2013, at the Community Based Rehabilitation Programme Resource Centre, Port Mourant, Corentyne Region 6, Guyana. The Guyana Community Based Rehabilitation Programme (CBR) will receive a grant of up to US$31,916 from the Government of Japan for the renovations of the community centre where the CBR provides services for people with disabilities.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Koji Fujimura, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Ms. Geraldine Halls, National Advisor of CBR, and Mr. Mark Adams, CBR Chairman of Region 6. Mr. Bhopaul Jagroo, Vice Chairman of Region 6 also attended the ceremony.
In his speech, Mr. Fujimura stated that there were few places outside the capital that provided sufficient care for people with disabilities in Guyana. Ideally, it would be a greater solution if all the public facilities were renovated to make them better prepared to cater for all persons, regardless of their physical capabilities. He further stated that this project is one of the positive steps to achieve this goal.
The Government of Japan welcomes further opportunities to work with the Government and the people of the Republic of Guyana, all with a view to strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding which exist between the two countries.
