The signing ceremony for the Grant Assistance for the Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) entitled “Project for Equipping Georgetown Public Hospital Pediatric Ward with Medical Equipments” took place at 9:00 a.m. on March 22, 2013, at the Georgetown Public Hospital, Georgetown, Guyana.
The Georgetown Public Hospital will receive a grant of up to US$90,319 from the Government of Japan for the procurement of medical equipment (pediatric monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators and over-tables) for the Pediatric Ward in order to improve and provide more complete medical services for children. This project also hopes to improve medical staff’s effectiveness with the procurement of basic equipment (auriscopes and ophthalmoscopes).
The ceremony was attended by the Honourable Samuel Hinds, Prime Minister of the Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Yoshimasa Tezuka, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Guyana, and Michael Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Georgetown Public Hospital, along with approximately thirty (30) guests.
In his speech, Ambassador Tezuka stated that through this project, the Georgetown Public Hospital will be able to provide improved service for children who are in need of adequate medical care to save their precious lives. Also, he mentioned his belief that the combined efforts of the GGP and the activities of the Senior Volunteers dispatched from Japan last year, in the field of paediatrics, to the hospital will create a synergy that will aid in the development of effective and efficient paediatric care at the hospital.
The Government of Japan welcomes further opportunities to work with the Government and the people of the Republic of Guyana, all with a view to strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding which exist between the two countries.
