Japan earns Second place at the FIFA Under 17 Women's World Cup

 

After a keenly contested tournament, Japan earned a respectable second place and won the hearts of the majority of the 13,000+ fans at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on September 25. The final match was the most intense of the World Cup, as both Japan and South Korea ended the 90-minute game with a 3-3 draw. After a goalless 30 minute sudden death, the game went into the penalty shootout stage, with Japan scoring 4 out of the 5 shots.

 

Throughout the tournament, the Japanese team received tremendous support from the Embassy staff and Japanese coummunity, with patrons sporting the traditional kimono and various martial arts clothing.
