JET Programme Series: A Rare Kanagawa JET appeared - Danielle Jaimungal

Little Danielle, from South Trinidad has been thinking about travelling the world and experiencing cultures for as long as she could remember. Twenty-four years later, with a degree in Psychology and International Relations, and going through a pandemic, it is still one of my biggest dreams! The JET program encapsulates everything I have ever wanted to achieve; the promotion of education and sharing of cultures has always been one of my passions and this program was the perfect match for me.
I am placed in the Kanagawa Prefecture, a beautiful mix of traditional and contemporary. I am most definitely eager to visit Yokohama and explore the city, reminisce on the beach at Enoshima, visit the shrines and parks. I definitely won’t be confined to where I live because I want to explore Japan in its entirety, from Okinawa to Hokkaido. And if I were to list all of the things that I’m excited for, we would be here for a while.
I may be speaking at great length about what I want to experience in Japanese culture, but I also am extremely excited to be part of the education system; to teach students. I want to bring something different to the table, with creative and innovative classroom sessions, to see my students succeed. I want to channel my passion for learning and cultural diversity to my students. I want to use all my resources, like pop culture, tradition and technology to make learning in the classroom enjoyable.
I am enthusiastic to share these experiences in Japan, not only with my country, but with everyone I meet from every part of the world. I am eager to better develop my Japanese language skills and develop inter-cultural relationships. I want to carry my culture to Japan, and share all the things I love; our folklore, our food, our visual and performing arts, our friendly and vibrant nature.
I want to thank the Ambassador and The Embassy Staff for this amazing opportunity to learn, grow and educate. I would also like to thank The JET coordinators, Mr. Morisawa and Mr. Rajalal for their continued support and guidance. I do hope to fulfill all the expectations of myself and the program.
