Jet Programme Series: T is for Perseverance - Terri-Ann Young

If perseverance is a person, that would be me because finally, I could say, "Ma, ah get tru!" I made it onto the JET programme and will be heading to Kobe City.
Who am I? I am Terri-Ann Young, a southern native and probably the busiest person you'd ever meet. This hot foot gyal is neither here nor there because I'm usually everywhere. Why? I love to learn and meet new people. That takes me everywhere through work, courses and exchange programmes (like Juntos).
An exchange programme such as JET will not only allow me to engage in intercultural exchange, but it'll allow me the chance to improve upon my teaching skills (as an ALT).That was bolstered by my time at a primary school in Moruga. Upon discovering this passion, an ember was lit under me because I finally found my calling. That was in 2019, now cue the pandemic that soon followed. This situation was unsuccessful at curbing the fire within me as I persistently applied three (3) times. Now, I could finally see my dreams achieved.
As such, I am excited to see what lies ahead as I open-mindedly head into this opportunity. An opportunity to move from country life to city life and another culture could initially be daunting, but I am stubborn enough to make anything work and will adapt. Especially since the JET Alumni Association of Trinidad and Tobago, current and past JETs, have been helpful and supportive thus far.
Finally, I'd like to express my gratitude to all that have supported me throughout this journey. I am referring to my family, friends, lecturers and supervisors. I am also appreciative of the faith our local embassy and CLAIR has placed in me.
Further, I look forward to sharing more persevering stories with you as I trapeze across Japan whilst sharing Trinbago's culture.
