Greetings Trinidad and Tobago, the land of steelpan, soca and calypso! I am Nikauleene Andrews, the holder of a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of the Southern Caribbean. My main hobbies are mostly art-related things such as sewing, costume design and karaoke. With the combination of sewing skills that I learned from my mother and artistic inclination that was enhanced by my mentor, former art teacher and creative director, Dave Cooper, my love for expression and artistry grew. Besides that, my father was the one who got me into karaoke based on his background in music. It is definitely worth noting that these things are part of the reason why I could never escape the allure of Japanese culture and craftsmanship.

For as long as I can remember, the Land of the Rising Sun has always been a source of joy for me. The moments in my childhood when I would watch Japan Video Topics with my brother and be completely mesmerized will never be forgotten. After all these years, it feels almost surreal that I have been blessed with this extraordinary opportunity. I mean, who would expect a young lady from San Juan, or should I say, "Sawa," to be so far from home? Parting ways with my beloved home-country is undeniably bittersweet, knowing that I will be leaving behind my dear family and friends. It is also a bit difficult to bid farewell to the taste of authentic doubles with slight pepper, slight roast, and sweet sauce. Amidst these mixed emotions, I am brimming with excitement as I venture into this new chapter of my life.

Drawing from my recent experience as a Robot Operator III in the world of Artificial Intelligence where I cooperatively trained machine learning robots, I hope to incorporate innovative teaching methods that captivate the imagination of my students and fuel their curiosity. Moreover, one of my other goals is to become proficient in the Japanese language. With each experience, I eagerly anticipate the chance to establish and cultivate my connection to Japan and its people, along with representing my beloved Trinidad and Tobago’s culture. With all that I have said, I can definitely say that the road ahead is filled with adventure and growth. Cheers to Nagasaki Prefecture!
