JET Programme Series: Let the Adventure Begin - Jaleeca Philip
The opportunity of a lifetime presented itself and I accepted it with open arms.I am Jaleeca Philip born and raised in the beautiful community of Morvant. I attended the St. James Secondary School then on to Sixth Form Government (Polytechnic) and later proceeded to enroll in UWI Roytec where I obtained my Bachelor of Education Degree. I am now on my way to become an Assistant Language Teacher in Japan!
My dream is to be an educator. My passion for teaching was recognized at a very early age and has evolved over years. The JET program provides a space to explore my passion for teaching. It grants me the opportunity to receive hands-on experience while using the knowledge and skill that I have acquired throughout my university tenure. I believe the most exciting part of this journey is being able to immerse myself in a culture that is vastly different to my own. I am eager to experience this new chapter in my life, to learn about Japan’s rich culture and even more to share the diverse culture and customs of my beautiful twin island, Trinidad and Tobago.
The rush of excitement I experienced when I received the call felt surreal. I was placed in Akashi City of Hyogo prefecture. I had no knowledge about the place but was elated to find as much information as possible. Google became my best friend. According to google, Akashi city is full of historical sites and great food. I'll make it my duty to experience every bit of it.
Thanks to God for providing this opportunity, the Japanese Government for seeing the importance of the program and my family and friends who have supported me thus far.
