FAQ
Q1: How do I obtain a visa application form?
A1: Visa application forms may be obtained from our website. You can find one here or by visiting our Required forms and Documents page.Q2: Do I need to make an appointment to submit my visa application?
A2: Yes. Visa applications will not be accepted without an appointment. Appointments can be made by contacting our Consular Section at (868) 628-5991 ext. 214.Q3: Do I still need to produce all of the documents listed above even though I have applied for a Japanese visa before?
A3: Yes, even though you may have made an application for a Japanese visa in the past, you will still need to produce the required documents at the time of your new application.Q4: What is the processing time? How long does it take to obtain a Japanese visa?
A4: The normal processing time for a visa is five (5) business days, but if there is any problem with the content of the application, the Embassy sends the application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo for further examination. In such cases, issuance of a visa may take up to or more than a month. Visa applicants are reminded to apply early for their visa, well in advance of the anticipated travel date.Q5: How far in advance can I apply for a visa?
A5: Japanese single-entry visas are only valid for a period of three months from the date of issue. If your intended travel date to Japan is in January, the visa appointment for the submission of documentation should be made in December. If the visa appointment for the submission of documentation was done before November and a visa was issued at that time for a travel date in January, the visa would expire before departure to Japan.Q6: How much is the visa fee?
A6: (1) Single Entry Visa: TT $135 Exact Cash Only(2) Double Entry Visa: TT $275 Exact Cash Only
(3) Transit Visa: TT $30 Exact Cash Only
Q7: For what period is a visa issued?
A7: Single-entry short-term stay visas are normally issued for fifteen (15), thirty (30), or ninety (90) days, and the issuance is based upon your travel dates.Q8: What size photographs are acceptable for the visa application form?
A8: Passport photos sized 45mm x 35 mm (2in x 1.4in) are acceptable. Applicants should not wear any glasses or hats and ears must be visible in the photo. Photos must NOT be taken at an angle or in profile; the applicant must face forward. Photos should ideally be taken within the last three (3) months.Q9: Can a Japanese visa be issued at the airport on arrival?
A9: Japanese visas are not issued at the airport in Japan. Therefore, a visa must be obtained before your arrival into Japan.Q10: Can a courier service or a third party be used to submit documentation for a visa application?
A10: We do not accept visa applications via courier. However, we do accept visa applications via a proxy of your choosing with a letter of authorization to submit documentation on your behalf for your visa. Please write clearly in the letter of authorization the reason, the relationship, a form of identification of the proxy with an attached copy, and the signature of the applicant.Q11: If I am a permanent resident of the US or Canada, do I need to apply for a visa?
A11 : Visas are issued based upon citizenship (i.e. the passport that you hold that will be used for entry to Japan). Therefore, a Japanese visa is required to enter Japan, even if the applicant has a Green Card or a Permanent Resident card from the US or Canada.
