How to Apply

STEP#1
Confirm the Type of Visa you need and the Application Requirements then gather the required documents and forms.

STEP#2
Schedule an appointment at the Embassy to submit your documents. Overseas applicants must first submit their documents via email to fulfill the Pre-check and Pre-Approval requirements.

STEP#3
Wait for processing to complete and collect your passport at the Embassy where you will pay the visa fee.

Application Requirements

All visa applications must be submitted in-person to the Embassy of Japan in Trinidad and Tobago.

Only applications with all required documents that meet the requirements at submission will be accepted.
Overseas applicants must first complete a pre-check process before they appear for an in-person interview. Please check the Pre-check and Pre-approval section to clarify your application requirements.
To submit your original and required documents at the Embassy, you must schedule an appointment in advance. Please check the Appointments section to clarify further details.

Required Documents and Forms

Please check the Types of Visas section to clarify which of the following documents you must submit for the visa application according to your purpose of visit.
1. Visa Application Form
Please refer to this Sample Visa Application Form when filling out your visa form.
Upon submission of this document during your appointment at the Embassy, NO ELECTRONIC OR SCANNED SIGNATURES will be accepted. All signatures must be hand-written.
If you are travelling for Short-Term purposes, please leave the "Certificate of Eligibility No." blank.
2. Schedule of Stay/ Travel Itinerary Form   Japanese
3. Letter of Invitation Form English   Japanese
4. List of Applicants Form English   Japanese
5. Letter of Guarantee English   Japanese

Pre-check and Pre-approval

Overseas Applicants MUST receive pre-approval of their documents before scheduling an appointment.
Once your documents have passed through the pre-check process, you will receive an email indicating that your application has received pre-approval. The applicant can then schedule an appointment with the Embassy via email or telephone.
Please check which documents you are required to submit in the Types of Visas section section and then submit these documents by email to the Consular Section at the Embassy of Japan.

Residents of Trinidad can schedule an appointment directly to submit their visa application.
Overseas applicants​ (including Tobago) must first pass a pre-check process before scheduling an appointment.

 

Processing and Collection

 We recommend that you apply for your visa approximately one month before your departure date. We do NOT offer expedited services. (Please see Q4 and Q5 in FAQ).

Residents of Trinidad will receive their stamped passport after 5 BUSINESS DAYS.
 
Overseas Applicants (including Tobago) are eligible for SAME-DAY PROCESSING.
These applicants can submit their documents and receive their stamped visa in passport on the same day IF THEY RECEIVE PRE-APPROVAL AND ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS ARE PRESENTED.
 
 
Visa Fees:

All visa fees are to be paid upon collection of the passport in exact cash.

Standard visa fees at the Embassy of Japan in Trinidad and Tobago are as follows:
  Type of Visa   Cost (in TTD)
  Single Entry Visa   $135.00
  Double or Multiple Entry Visa   $275.00
  Single or Double Entry Transit Visa   $30.00

Details of the application, flight itinerary, and travel itinerary may change the cost of the visa. Final costs can only be decided at the appointment and/or during the pre-check process.
 
Passport Collection:
Passport collections are to be done at the Embassy of Japan in Trinidad and Tobago.

All visa fees are to be paid upon collection of the passport.
Trinidadian residents can pick up their passports 5 Business Days after submission of their passport.
Overseas applicants can pick up their passports on the SAME DAY as their appointment in the afternoon.
In the case that the applicant is unable to collect their passport themselves, an authorization letter that is hand-signed by the applicant containing the name and ID number of a proxy can be presented to facilitate collection.
