Police Certificate

A Police Certificate is issued by the Japanese National Police Agency, and indicates whether the applicant has a criminal record in Japan or not.
Applicants for Police Certificates MUST come to the Embassy in-person to be fingerprinted.
You cannot apply for police certificates online, via courier or by proxy*.
If you do not currently reside in Trinidad and Tobago or within this Embassy’s jurisdiction, please contact an Embassy or Consulate-General of Japan within or close to your country of residence to apply for a certificate more easily.

Processing Time: Approximately 2 - 3 months
Please contact the Consular Section with the following details to submit your application and schedule an appointment:
*Police Certificates can be collected by a proxy after an applicant has already completed the necessary procedures in-person at the Embassy. The applicant must inform the Embassy of the proxy’s details during the appointment and collect an official Authorization Form to be brought by the proxy on the day of collection.

- Application form (physical copies available at the Embassy of Japan)
- Valid passport
- Document which states applicant’s present address such as driver's license (if possible)

Please contact the Consular Section with the following details to submit your application and schedule an appointment:
- Current country of residence.
- Reason for needing the certificate.
- Country and institution to which the certificate will be submitted.
- Domestic law or regulations mandating the submission of the certificate.
- Evidence confirming that the relevant institution is requesting the certificate based on those laws or regulations.
